Edgar Olvera’s Story
Edgar’s father, Octaviano, was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver caused by longtime medicine use. At first it was medicine for diabetes, and then it was medicine for the side-effects of diabetes. Eventually Octaviano’s memory became so bad that his physician suspended his driver’s license for his own safety, and he could no longer continue working as a driver for a delivery company. It was a nearly 5-year progression until he died.

The CNS Bereavement Program was developed out of a need to support grieving families, as well as those who are dying and grieving the end of their own lives. It was also developed to provide enhanced training and education for our clinical staff who support our patients and their families through their grief journeys.
Grieving is a complex journey, especially for children who may struggle to express their emotions or understand their profound loss. The Community Nursing Services (CNS) Bereavement Program recently launched its Children’s Grief Backpacks initiative as a beacon of support for these young hearts, offering them a unique blend of comfort and tools to help them navigate their grief. This project is crafted with empathy and understanding, aiming to guide children through one of life's most challenging experiences.
